Peninsula SPCA
523 J Clyde Morris Blvd, Newport News, Newport News,
I bought my beagle from them. They are very much under funded and ask for donations often. Rudeness comes with the area, long hours, smell, you name it... The place could be cleaner and could smell better, maybe clean floors with cleaner instead of soap and water, change papers often etc.. Workers have been co-operative and knowledgeable of animals. Always kind and willing to help. For Adoptions : Take in account this is a LONG adoption process. When I adopted my dog, it took over 4 hours to walk out with him. I was bored ! I had to bring my other dog with me to make sure they would be suitable together. I was not allowed to drive home and put other dog at house and return for this dog. I had to stay there ( which I did not see the need when I could have easily taken one home ). After all papers were filed ( a good 30 to 45 minute process ) I was free to take my adopted dog home. Here I was with my other dog who had been sitting in the car for 3 + hours, a new dog and me in 1 small car. The ' adoption ' process needs to be A LOT faster... No one should have to wait 3 to 4 hours to adopt. I had no choice but to leave my other dog in car while waiting to adopt this one. If I left, they would have voided the adoption... That is my 2 cents worth on the Newport News SPCA..

Peconic River Herb Farm
2749 River Rd, Calverton, Mattituck,
This place stays stocked with unique and popular plants. I've seen plant species here that I cannot find anywhere else... huge wormwoods, rues, and even mugworts! The items are well taken care of and if you wait till the end of the summer, plants are bursting out of their pots.. a great time to get a healthy bush full of twisting rosemary. They have an area planted with herbs and other foilage you can get ideas for your own garden from. There are books, seeds, garden nic nacs and dried gourds you may purchase from the store that looks like a barn. And if you need information, just talk to someone who works there.. they'll be more than happy to give you landscaping advice.

Children's Zoo Gift Shop
3411 Sherman Blvd, Fort Wayne, Leo-Cedarville,
We went there....July 3, 2003 for our wedding anniversery. I JUST picked up my new wheel chair an hour before...and we went right there to the ZOO. My wheelchair would NOT fit through the doors to the snake exibit, the outback adventrue or the restrooms. Thank goodness I can stand up for a short time so my husband could get my chair in the door. But I had to walk into the restroom. Also the ground covering at many of the exibits mainly the Outback, The Rainforest, and the Farm is not friendly to wheelchairs. And when my wheels did come off, not one of the people working there offered a hand to help. I did contact them, and they gave us our money back. And the handicapped parking....all taken by people with out handicapped parking permits. We had to park else where. We will not go back ever to the Fort Wayne Childrens Zoo.
